Motor Oil, Filters, and Cooking Oil
Recycle oil filters and used motor oil curbside. Cooking oil in a container can go in your trash cart or recycle it at the Central Sanitary HHW Facility.
Oil Filters, Motor Oil
- Pour motor oil into a clear plastic container like a milk jug.
- Tape lid to close it securely.
- Place jug beside your recycling cart.
- Maximum 3 gallons of oil per pickup.
- Place oil filters in sealable plastic bag, i.e., Ziploc bag, seal.
- Place bag beside your recycling cart.
Cooking Oil
- Pour cooking oil into a clear plastic container like a plastic milk jug.
- Tape lid to close it securely.
- Take it to your local HHW facility - Central Sanitary HHW Facility.
Household Hazardous Waste
Recycle batteries, cell phones, and compact fluorescent light bulbs curbside (CFLs). Batteries accepted include AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V only. Place each type of item in a clear, quart sized, sealed plastic bag and place it next to your recycling cart.
It is illegal to throw hazardous waste in your garbage or recycling cart. Recycle your car and household batteries, latex paint, anti-freeze, motor oil, oil filters, fluorescent bulbs and mercury thermometers free of charge at the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 4797 Imhoff Place, Martinez.

Sharps
It is illegal to throw syringes, needles and lancets in your garbage or recycling cart. Sharps must be placed in a medical sharps container and taken to an official drop-off location. To find your nearest drop-off site, visit our sharps page or call customer service at (925) 685-4711.
Electronic Waste
State law prohibits putting CRTs (televisions and computer monitors), printers, fax machines, cellular phones, DVD players, VCRs, radios and other electronics in the garbage. Computer peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and computer speakers may be placed in your recycling cart.
Electronic waste must be taken to a licensed facility. Several local e-waste companies offer free curbside pickup of electronic waste.
